"Native American" theme. Chief Topleaf brings in many items to show the children and teaches about native culture.
"Safety" theme. Children are taught about the "do`s and don`ts" of safety.
Work work work ! As part of the safety theme, children are taught that it is SAFETY FIRST.
"My Body" theme. Here we see the operating team about to perform major surgery on the sick dolly. Children are taught about their senses, etc..
"Transportation" theme. The buses are kind of crowded nowadays !
"Thanksgiving" theme. Here we have pilgrims who have arrived on the latest "Mayflower Shuttle".
"Fall" theme. Here we are on our Fall hike. Children have a list of things to look for, and magnifying glasses are a must.
"Halloween" theme. Have you ever seen a scarier classroom ?
"Christmas" theme (holiday season). Who is this strange man who is visiting MCPS, and what could be in all of those bags ?
"CASTLES" theme. Notice the Castle with the drawbridge in the background. Students are taught all about life in the middle ages.
MCPS also has access to the school gym. Although we try to take the children out at least once per week, some activities and games are best done in the gym.
"Hip Hop" theme. MCPS has a dance instructor for 2 months so that the children may learn Hip Hop dancing. In some cases children have blossomed and gained confidence due to the dance lessons.
"Space" theme. Here we see a spaceman in full uniform working next to the mock "Canadian Spaceship".
"Valentines Party for the Moms"
"Rain Forest" theme. Children learn about life in the Rain Forest. Notice the "Tarzan-like" costumes, and the simulated rainforest in the background.
"St Patrick`s Day". Nothing like a sing-a-long with the children. Mrs Fitzgerald regularly plays her guitar, particularly on "Fun Fridays".
Children are brought to the Chistmas Park School Library weekly and are allowed (encouraged) to borrow books. Reading and word comprehension are a big part of the MCPS program.
